Last day of August, final mosaic.... of August.... many thanks to the artists and photographers featured for sharing their work via my Flickr contacts... It started out rainy but we're now enjoying a very warm, bright bank holiday Monday.

This week is 'back to school' and getting work ready to send to the Frou Frou exhibition (see link over there on the left). I'll also hope to make a start on new projects and finishing a few outstanding things....

So no new work in my own shop this week, but there will be an update next week, most likely Wednesday 9th.

Enjoy your last day of August. Thanks for all your recent encouraging comments. Much appreciated!

new work - snowglobes

girl dreamer & bird - snow globe series

I'm just about to update my own shop with a few new pieces..... but will of course share photos here of new work. And so.... I've designed a new 'snow globe' idea, a domed world, tiny and intricate, larger brooches or to be framed..... the snow globe above will be in my shop in just a moment....

I've long had a fascination with tiny dream-like worlds and spaces. Snow globes are both nostalgic and yet somehow there's something a little unusual in these forever glittery domes, trapped, enchanted, my stitched figures have to bend and curve and dance a little to be in there.... like living in a spellbound world....

this is the piece I was working on yesterday, now completed.... puppeteer snow globe.... this one I am putting aside for an exhibition happening later in the year....

Enjoy your weekend x

purple & blackberries

this is a work-in-progress shot.... another tiny puppeteer.... perhaps I chose purple for her skirt because I had blackberries in mind??...

I'm not the best pastry cook, but I like a pie..... blackberry and apple in progress..... I'm making a special tea for special people today.......

I shall be updating my own shop tomorrow at around 4pm ish.... a few new small artworks this time

I hope your week is going well x

puppeteer dreamers

Puppeteer dreamers..... two new brooches.... these are both larger and intricate brooches....

When I first began to stitch figures, I found the confidence to draw with thread gradually, and composed faces and portraits that looked straight back at me... rather like photographs, the vintage photographs I collect (and you may collect also).... but as I have learned and improvised, so my confidence has slowly but surely allowed me to loosen up the figures a little so that they can look aside, aslant, dance a little, be here and elsewhere at the same time.... I like working small. I think that much you can see. It helps that I listen to music (all kinds, but especially Classical when I am working) and then I can let go a little and not be so in control.... I like the figures to develop in their own way and rarely will I make any marks on the fabric before starting to work.

I'm enjoying the colours and textures too. Most of the time my machine thinks it is dancing and painting. The word sewing doesn't really figure.....

new

Gertrude 'poems' - a new yesterdays doll, this one I think will be going to Frou Frou (contemporary embroidery group show in Weston-Super-Mare - September). Gertrude wears a combination of hand and machine stitch, I like that. I like putting the machine handwriting and a band of tiny hand-stitched crosses right there together. So it can work, combining the both....

More soon x

friday

face on a model of a gas balloon - as featured in the Science Museum (London)...... when I saw this face it made me smile....... My favourite section in the Science Museum is 'dreams of flight', all those early flying machines and contraptions....

I like the idea of making contraptions, I don't know if I could ever design something that might ever fly however..... I know of someone who hand-glides from Wales to Surrey on a regular basis, landing in a local park..... I find the very idea of getting up and staying up there quite challenging, never mind travelling miles....

Thank you kindly for all your comments re: my own shop. I'm pleased to know you like it. There will be more new in there soon. Thanks also to several lovely people for your blog mentions and links, thank you x

Right now I am working on several new pieces and all sorts. Getting things ready to send to Frou Frou - contemporary embroidery group show happening in September, Weston-Super-Mare.

When not stitching.....

I'm busy reading my way through the Booker prize longlist. I'm on my third title, there are thirteen to read. A few friends of mine are also reading the books, so that's good. It's the first time I've set myself the challenge of reading them all. I don't think I'll have read all thirteen by early October when the prize is announced, but oh well....

Listening to: Veda Hille's latest CD just arrived today.... well it's a group project with Duplex titled 'Worser'. I'm just putting it on my shuffle as I type this....

Also listening/watching Brett Anderson's demo versions of new songs from his forthcoming album....will be brilliant..... you can see/hear 'Ashes of Us' on youtube and there will be more soon....

Gardening: our tomato plants are going crazy.... which is good

Have a relaxing, creative weekend x

seeking joy & inspired by the sea

Seeing joy in red shoes..... a stitched artwork completed recently......

This work, and a small selection of others, will be in my own shop tomorrow. You are welcome to take a look, of course, I'll be opening with new work at around 4pm UK time..... Please note I'll be offering free worldwide shipping until further notice (and yes that includes insurance on items above £40). The shop accepts payments via all major cards and paypal. I'm just tweaking the details and getting it all prepared, so at the moment all you see is a 'under maintenance' page for the moment....

A change of scene.... that is what is nice about our garden, it offers me a chance to get out and look at different textures and this area here is inspired by the sea.... I've planted succulents and seaweedy-looking plants, smaller alpines, in a variety of containers.... There are old food tins planted up with sedum and sempervivums. A ceramic pot I made and fired several years ago, with washes of sea colours holds a tender aloe.... There's old and new here. In the Winter, I have to tuck many of these plants away indoors or under our 'covered in bit' by the side of the house. And in the Spring this area of crate-shelves is used to house my collection of auriculas. You might remember seeing them earlier in the year.... Right now the auriculas are lined up against a shady wall, enjoying the cool.... Some of them need to be potted on before Winter, so that's a job on my list.... I like to garden and enjoy making little scenes of contained worlds.... The textures and colours inspire my dreaming....

A very happy Monday to you..... thank you to all the artists and photographers for sharing their work, via my Flickr contacts. I enjoy finding images to put together and am grateful to my friends over at Flickr for sharing such brilliant work.

This week, another busy time... Summer holidays are still here.....

On Wednesday I shall be properly launching MY SHOP here with new work!

Last night I had a dream about stitching foxes....hmmmm

I've got several pieces 'in the works' at the moment and so it is not so surprising to be dreaming of tiny whorl faces and elaborate thread patterns, twirled eyes and pointed toes, flickering feathery wing stitches......

have a good Monday x

my shop

this is the reverse side of the mystic (owl dress) piece..... it is always fascinating for me to 'flip over' and to see how the threads link and develop their own story.... this is a bit like my own story, complex but somehow 'coming together', which is far better than not....

I just wanted to post here today to also let you know - I've decided to open my own independent online shop here..... I'll be putting several new pieces in the shop window quite soon. And will be adding to it regularly. I'll let you know when. Opening this new shop will allow me to offer artwork directly. Also, the shop will allow me to sell in sterling, British pounds. If you are outside the UK of course paypal will handle any change of currency for you and I am happy to help out with exchange rates etc... I'll be offering free shipping on all items.

(I'll continue to keep my etsy shop, though it is empty right now. Etsy has been a good place for me, and am grateful to people for finding me there.)

As mentioned a few days back, I've got quite a few new and exciting events lined up. Plenty of work to do. It is good....

have a lovely, sunny weekend x

thames & nevering

Thames shore........ the ancient Thames is a lot cleaner these days, there is history right there in all those broken stones and bricks... A wonderful history of the Thames is Sacred River by Peter Ackroyd....

Meanwhile, a new entry at nevering

new work - mystics

mystic (owl dress).... a new smaller (yet very detailed) stitched artwork..... the colours of this piece took me by surprise, but I enjoy them and I hope you do.

Clairvoyant - I previewed this as a work-in-progress last week and here it is now, completed.

I am currently working on artwork and other pieces for several new shows and events - a group show Frou Frou, coming up in September - and another show in December.... So, I will be deciding which is where and how and whatever. And in the mean time will be showing photos here, to share in it all....

I hope you have a happy Tuesday. Now for a cup of tea in the garden - the sun is out.....

A happy Monday to you.... and many thanks to the artists and photographers for sharing their work via my Flickr contacts.... As always, I'm busy with new work. I have many different projects in the works and am at a 'happy' stage with several. To begin with, I always feel incredibly nervous about something, even if I know it's like something I've tackled previously. Then I get to stage where I feel I can not so much relax but yes enjoy..... I suppose honestly I like the tension at the start....

Enjoy your week and more soon x

in progress

It is late in the evening here and a Sunday, but I thought I would quickly share this photo here of a larger piece, in progress.... I am working on it in stages, as ever. And I think it will be completed over the next several days. It is called 'mystics and dreamers'...

good night x

holey friday

Just back from a short trip to the seaside at Brighton...... we had a few days of great sunshine! It was good to get a change of scene and visit some new places and familiar ones too.

So now I've plenty of work to do, future trips planned, plenty of everything ahead.... I wish you a very good weekend and more soon x

new work in progress

New work in-progress.....There's a tangle of stitches all coming to life...... many not-completed works, all of them very new and with their own distinctive personalities....

I was aiming toward a slightly 'crazed' expression.... a lovely rapture.. This piece is titled 'may love be a ladder'.....

Clairvoyant..... will speak for itself....

And that is all I am showing today.... take care and enjoy your Tuesday.
