Sammiam asked yesterday re: sculpting the heads and if I make them ahead of time.... To explain again for anyone who missed things starting in January - I create the head using air dry clay (I use sculpt dry which is less 'wet' than some clays of this kind and dries quickly). The head is created the night before or quite often on the morning....
So for today's head here's a tiny timetable -
7.25am make the head (whilst discussing today's school timetable with my daughter) - leave the head on kitchen windowsill to dry.
12.55 after a busy morning of working on stitch, go into kitchen to make lunch and note there are cracks from drying out - so make repairs by skimming over cracks with wet clay.
2.25 head has been sitting in the sun and is now quite dry - dry enough to paint. I paint the face and leave it to dry before varnishing.
3.45 back from school pick-up- quickly add a coat of tinted varnish, photograph and put image on Flickr.... blog
Jeanette asked if I sometimes feel less than motivated to make/paint a tiny head.... and yes I'll be honest there have been a few days when I am tired or just not impressed with what I have made. But I have so far got over that. If - and this is only an if - I find myself becoming less and less interested then I will decide to end the project as it is. But so far, I am inspired to carry on and receiving all your feedback here and on flickr does help me and is much appreciated.
have a good weekend!
