I have posted a new 'grandmama story' over at Nevering today, a Christmas story. I've enjoyed writing stories about Grandmama, Hugo and the rest of the family this year. I've been sharing my writing over at nevering for several years now and am grateful to you for reading. Next year my hope is to have a new zine of writing available, perhaps in the summer.

I'll be taking a short blog break here but will be back in the new year. Thanks always for reading, for your lovely comments which are always read and welcome. Happy Christmas and cheers!

mistletoe

a very simple idea - tiny lights (on wire) - combined with mistletoe.... this is hanging on our living room door.

A mild start to this Christmas week here. This week I am will mostly be quietly busy with family, catching up with personal projects and things around the house. I'm working on ideas in my sketchbooks and considering new ideas for the new year.

Have a good start to your week.

waiting for the arrival of fresh mistletoe..... it is the shortest day, with the sun not arriving until almost eight o'clock this morning and due to depart around mid-afternoon. A mild Christmas season here, with not a speck of frost. I am working a lot in my sketchbooks and making time to catch up on reading - and lots of chores around the house. Perhaps I'll make a last-minute Christmas cake.

Another dark evening, now so close to the shortest day - I enjoy cozy evenings and winter gardens. Many of my dreams at this time of year are about planning out gardens and ideas for flowers to come. I'm writing a new winter poem sequence over at nevering.

Monday

 sketchbook detail
sketchbook

Hello, it's just past four in the afternoon and getting dark - well yes hello December darkness. I'm making the most of this time between the end (of the year) and the beginning (of another), working each day, if I can, in my various sketchbooks. Making small books and working through ideas with no limits except the materials I have to hand.

Expect to see later in January a new zine featuring work from my sketchbooks.....

Just a reminder: my shop is open throughout the holiday season. It is too late now for people outside of the UK to receive packages before Christmas. If you would prefer to purchase and then for me to post after the rush, then I can do that of course. I am happy to reserve any artwork for up to two weeks.

Have a good week and more soon.

Thanks always to the artists and photographers featured here. There's a little hint toward Christmas and winter. I like a quiet, Santa-free kind of Christmas decorating. It's always a personal thing, of course. We've done the traditional tree, black tree, white tree, tree covered with doll's house furniture, tree of birds and maybe this year we may have the tree of chocolate:)

Monday

sketchbook

Hello Monday. We have had a few sunny days, but it has been chilly and who knows we may just have a white Christmas? So long as the snow comes and goes quickly, I'll be fine with that....

Many thanks to everyone for taking a look at my recently updated shop. Several artworks have sold and I've sent packages today. It's always with pleasure that I put packages together. I'm aiming to get everything in the post asap, as always.

So for the next few weeks I will be catching up with personal projects and working on some new ideas for 2015. I'll hope to share some different posts here: a few glimpses at my vintage collections, more sketchbook pages too. Also, I'll be aiming to write a little more and hope to post new stories and poems over at nevering.

Have a good start to your week.

new works

A hint of sunshine arrived this morning - so I have been busy taking photos. Here is a selection of some of the work that will be in my shop updated tomorrow.

three still life paintings - acrylics on linen (with card backing). Each white jug has its own quiet personality, inspired by both folk art and modernist shapes. The paintings have a textured feel, with my aim being to create quiet, thoughtful arrangments.

and perhaps one of my favourite recent figure and colour studies -

'seated figure in interior' - acrylics on heavy watercolour paper

two of the embroidery brooches - I chose to feature these today as they both have distinctive tiny faces, I enjoy stitching those tiny-tiny portraits so much. It's a challenge but a happy one.

a few glimpses at new work

winter figures - gouache on paper winter figures -gouache sketches on paper

I am sorting through and selecting my very best figures for this Saturday's shop update - all are gouache on paper - paper size about A5 or slightly smaller. You can never have too many works on paper (I would say that, yes, but even in a small home you can move things about, recycle frames, store works carefully and reconsider your walls every six months, year, few months.)

here's a glimpse at two still life paintings (parts of at least). These are both acrylics on linen. With a textured, simple feel. I am waiting for the sunshine that is forecast tomorrow so that I can take better photographs.

Monday

wintry figure - a gouache sketch (via my Instagram account, you are welcome to follow me over there)

Hello December, how cold (or hot?) is it where you are? Feeling a teeny bit chilly today but no frost or snow just yet.

This is going to be another busy week for me as I get work completed ready for my shop update on Saturday. I hope to preview a selection as the days go by. Expect to see new paintings, sketches and embroidery brooches too! This will be my last major update for this year. However, I may add a few extra pieces over the following weeks and will keep you posted. My Bigcartel shop is now really my main shop and I shall be offering a variety of lovely works.

Meanwhile, over at my Etsy shop the drawings sale continues and I am going to add a few extra days, so that it will end next Monday. From next Monday that shop will be on hiatus.

Thanks always for visiting here and for your comments. I hope to share more as the week goes by.
