Hello, a happy Monday to you - it's the final Monday in March, the Easter school/college holidays for many of us in the UK (and elsewhere of course). A chilly, sort-of-sunny start to the week here. It would be lovely if it could get just a little warmer, I still need to get out into our tiny garden and get re-potting etc., but the cold hinders my enthusiasm.

Many thanks as always for your visits and comments here. I'm taking a little time off over the next few weeks to catch up with things at home but am around and happy to send out orders. There was a flurry of zine sales over the weekend - just posted them all out this morning! Thank you. So now my latest poetry + art zine 'something else' is *limited stock*.

Many thanks as always for your visits and comments here. Have a good start to your week.

Notes to self: We think we remember what we see, when we look at paintings, when we visit large galleries - there is so much to see. Then there is a grappling, a trying to recollect. Glance at a wall and see the colours, the sensation of the paintings and how they are together and apart as individual works made over years. Walk from room to room, encounter your own personal memory of what painting is or can be. Attempt to forget what it is you want to say because saying is no longer what painting is about. Painting, if it has to be about anything, is about painting. And yet the playful shapes and colours, the textures of collage and the knowing hints do not make paintings at all - they suggest painting as it might be in a dream, but never really happened/happens.

A happy Monday to you - a chilly yet bright start here. Thanks always to the artists/photographers featured in this week's mosaic. I hope you may find some inspiration - a mix of spring and autumn shades in this one. I'm always interested in the textures and colours of nature, and how they may translate into photography and paint, and textiles.

Thanks again to everyone who visited my updated shop since last Wednesday. I was considering adding just a few more pieces at the end of this week - before I take a short break for the Easter hols - but I don't wish to rush things and will need more time. Therefore my next update will be later on in April. (I've circled Wednesday 22nd April as a possible but will let you know, of course).

Over half of my new zine 'something else' has sold. So it won't be long until it is limited stock. I know a few people in the UK have already received their copy and are pleased with it, thanks!

So this week I will continue on with new stitches and painting - working in my sketchbooks too. I did not get much time for my sketchbooks last week but hope to consider more ideas on paper in the days to come.

Take care and more soon.

many thanks

Many thanks to everyone who has visited my shop (updated yesterday). I am now busy putting packages together - a batch has been sent today and I will be sending more tomorrow. As always I am very grateful for your interest, especially as it has been a little while since I offered embroidery..... I hope that I may just have a few more smaller stitched pieces for my shop toward the end of next week. Will let you know here, of course.

Meanwhile, I still have copies of my poetry zine available, about half are already spoken for. Thanks!

It's gone all chilly here today - some days are more spring-like than others at the moment. Looking forward to sowing some flower seeds at the weekend.

shop update

forget-me-not forget-me-not - a larger portrait in stitch

New works now available in my shop..... this has been an intense time of tiny stitches, making zine copies and painting too..... Thank you for taking a look at the new selection.

Please note: I am happy to reserve any one item, for up to two week. However, I am not reserving zines. Contacting me and sending a message is easy, just click the contact link over at my shop. Happy to help.

If my time allows I may add a few more works toward the end of next week. I'll be taking a short break during the start of April but will be around for sending packages etc...

Thanks always.

hello, it's a damp and chilly start to the week here - but there are signs of spring with daffodils and violets growing along the paths. I like how violets can invade a front lawn, even if they are not there in flower for long..... Many thanks to all the artists/photographers featured in this week's mosaic. Please follow links to discover more.

This is a particularly busy start to the week for me as I get all the work ready for my shop update on Wednesday. I am looking forward to sharing with you a new collection of embroidery - I am pleased to say I have got into my stitching-stride, and it has been a pleasure to work in embroidery again after taking a bit of a break. Wednesday's update will also see my new poetry zine available and more. Aiming to update at around 5pm.

I hope you have a good start to your week.

a wide skirt - portrait in stitch

work in progress

day one - I've stitched the main figure portrait. Now I have some idea who I am working with. Her face and posture will tell me how to proceed. Always I am working with what the stitches are telling me. There is much more to do.

a wide skirt

a wide skirt - portrait in stitch

several hours and many, many stitches later...... I have the completed work. The two small full length figures each side of the main portrait are there to raise a smile and to also emphasise the width of the skirt. You may know all about whalebone and basketry, worn by ladies of a certain status centuries ago. Whilst I do not attempt to reproduce historical costume exactly, it certainly has an influence on my work.

This piece is one of several to be available in my shop next Wednesday 18th March.

Have a good weekend.

new and work in progress

springtime

a miniature portrait in stitch - this embroidery is quite intricate, with playful characters - I have titled this one 'springtime'.

and a work in progress...... a larger and again intricate piece.... I realise more and more that my work is about embroidery itself, a kind of metaembroidery, it I can say that.

so in this piece I am exploring pattern and repetition in embroidery, how this relates to costume and to storytelling....

Hello, another Monday comes around - here's a mosaic to inspire you and many thanks as always to the artists/photographers featured. Please follow links to discover more about the images.

So it's a bit of an overcast start to the week here, but getting milder. I know friends in the US and Canada are still 'enjoying' snow, and I hope where ever you are you are staying warm and well. Signs of spring are definitely with us here in the south of England: daffodils are coming through, other flowering bulbs too, and the birds are getting busier. There is a magpie (is it the same one, or is there a rota?) that comes into our front garden and has a good tug at the woody rose bush, attempting to get twigs. It does a good jiggy dance in the bare branches, but always just as I get my camera - it flies away.

News on my forthcoming zine - it now has a title! (and phew) it is called 'something else' - a zine/booklet of poetry + artwork. As a limited edition of just sixty, this one is rather special with a lovely cover design/paper. I'll share a preview picture and details over at nevering tomorrow. Over the next several days I will be carefully printing, stitching and folding, making copies ready for my shop update....

And news on my shop update: it will be on March 18th, Wednesday - time to be decided. There will be a selection of new embroidery, new zine and other artwork. Look out for previews of new work over the coming week and a bit.

Have a good start to your week and more soon.

embroidery - work in progress

work in progress

work in progress - looking up close and larger than life...... I am beginning to make a new collection of portraits in stitch. Over the next few weeks I hope to make a variety of pieces.

As it has been a while since I've offered new embroidery, and I like to have the chance to consider and photograph work as a group for my own reference, I am not selling ahead of my next shop update and I am not reserving any pieces. (Once the shop update is live then yes I am happy to reserve a piece, by request.) I think this is the fairest and less stressful approach - so I can focus on making my finest work and hope you will enjoy seeing. Thank you for your understanding.

I hope to share a few more glimpses over the next few weeks.

Meanwhile, I am still editing my zine - it's always a time-consuming project to take on but I am liking the feel and shape of it so far.

A Happy March to you! Sunny but rather chilly here. So glad to see the start of a hopeful month (not a big fan of February), so time to start anew...... I hope the above mosaic gives some inspiration as we begin a new month and week. Many thanks always to the artists and photographers featured. Please click on links and discover more.

This morning I made a start on new embroidery - revving my sewing machine after some weeks of not stitching. Always a little apprehensive, how will the stitching go, who will turn up on the fabric? My stitched portraits are all improvised, as you may know. So, my hope is to have a small spring collection ready for my next shop update. I hope to share more with you.

Meanwhile, I am continuing to edit my new zine - the title is still not 100% printed in ink - so what can I tell you about it so far? It features poems + artwork. It follows on from previous zines in that the format is hand-size. It will be a limited edition. I'm exploring connections between visual art and writing.

I'm also working on smaller landscapes and portraits. So yes I am busy. And meanwhile by the kitchen door we have deep purple irises just flowering. I thought I had planted crocuses but I much prefer irises(though crocuses are lovely)....

Have a good start to your week.
