'a place by the woods' - gouache on paper (24cm x 21cm)
exploring the woods and what you might find..... I had almost forgotten the pleasure of 'construction' - I've painted houses and buildings previously, but not for a while..... this is one of an ongoing series. There will be one other 'dwelling within a landscape' included in my shop update tomorrow
'just enough wool' - a smaller painting in gouache (12cm x 9cm)
'woman by a window' - another smaller painting in gouache (12cm x 9cm)
These are just a few of the varied selection I have ready to add to my shop tomorrow (2pm uk time) - I hope you may enjoy seeing each work.
Just a reminder, as I have been receiving several requests - I don't reserve work ahead of a shop update (I will reserve an artwork that is in my shop but not before it is added). This is to give anyone interested a chance to purchase. This seems the least unfair way of doing things and thanks for your understanding. I am always humbled by the response from people when several want a particular artwork. Never do I take your interest for granted and always do I want to you to feel happy with your choices. It's a pleasure to send my work near and far, and thank you always.

Hello - last Monday in September (yes indeed) - a nip in the air this morning as I walked up the hill...... (it's hilly round here). So yes, hello to autumn. I enjoy this season, so long as it does not get too rainy and windy. I shall look forward to fine autumn sunshine and walks in the woods..... Meanwhile, my thanks to all the artists and photographers featured in this week's mosaic. As always I encourage you to click on links and discover more....
I've had a busy start to my week, sending a parcel of artwork off to a gallery. It was very satisfying to put a selection together and I hope it will be enjoyed by visitors to the gallery (I'll share more details soon). The framed artwork looked just as I wished, and I did take photographs before bubble-wrapping, so I'll share some photos of how my smaller paintings look framed some time soon.
There are new paintings ready for my shop - and I hope to have a new, lovely and varied selection for you this week. I'll be updating my shop on Wednesday at the usual time of 2pm. Thanks always for your interest.
Tomorrow I'll share a 'new work' post - have a good start to your week.

a smaller gouache work on Fabriano paper (12cm x 9cm)
I have been working on quite a varied selection of new smaller paintings. Some are on their way to a gallery show that begins mid October (I'll post details here nearer the date). Other works will be added to my shop. Each small painting is treated as an individual with its own story. I like the challenge of painting on a smaller scale, without being so miniature that I strain my eyes.
Tomorrow I'll be picking up some framed smaller paintings - and hope to get photographs taken to show you how they look when framed with deep mounts. There are many and various framing options, as I've mentioned previously. I know several people are slowly but surely collecting smaller works (many thanks) and again this gives the collector a great opportunity to make connections or see contrasts between paintings.

'tea in the woods' - a larger gouache artwork (larger for me that is - measuring 25cm x 21.5cm) on Fabriano paper.
Some people may describe themselves as beach or water types, others feel connected with mountain or desert. I think I've always felt a connection with woodland, the ever-changing nature of the place, the light and dark, the scope for story. I walk in our local woods quite often, though it is a relatively small space within larger open parkland, the 'trees bit' is where I like to linger. Woodland is not always romantic, there can be a sense of secrecy and things yet seen, or described clearly. Each time I sit to sketch or paint a woodland-inspired idea, a slightly different perspective may emerge.
I have also been working on new interior-based paintings - here is 'a table conversation' smaller painting - gouache
and a new monoprint drawing:
takes us outside again, but into the familiar territory of the garden - 'in amongst the stragglers'
These are just some of the new artworks to be added to my shop tomorrow afternoon - usual time, 2pm (uk). Thanks always.

A happy Monday to you -and thanks as always to the artists and photographers featured in this week's mosaic. It's a dull yet mild start to the week here - glimmers of sunshine only today, but I am welcoming the cooler weather.... I like autumn and spring, yet both can be fleeting. I'm seeing acorns scattered about on footpaths at the moment.....
I started the week working on a larger gouache painting - and will share with you tomorrow. I'm quite pleased with what felt like an ambitious idea.... can't say more than that. Tomorrow share new work here tomorrow.
My plans to start some paper sculptural work haven't really taken off as planned - I cut my finger badly, then when I sat down to work with the paper ideas they didn't quite feel as I wanted them to. So I made a start, put things to one side, and will come back to it. That's a better way forward. Right now I am very into the painting and am making work for upcoming shows and opportunities - and ideas keep on coming. So it's all good.
Have a great start to your week - more soon.

two smaller gouache paintings
I've yet to title each of these, quite a moody pair with an autumnal feel....
Continuing on with new gouache smaller paintings - I do enjoy working on a small scale and seeing things within a modest picture space....
Yesterday I took some work to my local framers - four small gouache paintings to be featured in a group exhibition, along with other unframed work. When I get the framed work I'll attempt to photograph and share here, to show you how it has been framed. I think the smaller paintings work well in larger frames, with breathing space around the picture. Of course framing is a very personal thing - and so selling the majority of my work unframed allows people the opportunity to frame work according to their own taste and needs.
have a good weekend

'cobweb walk' - gouache on Fabriano paper
and introducing a new series of mixed media works - these are all quite small in scale (14cm x 10cm - or 15cm x 11cm) - and are various combinations of oil pastels, soft pastels, ink, pencil..... Here's a glance at a small group. There will be four or five of these new works in my shop tomorrow. I am using a limited palette, leaning toward monochrome, exploring my world.....
These are just some of the works to be added to my shop tomorrow afternoon - 2pm (uk time)

Hello, a happy Monday to you - and thanks to all the artists and photographers featured in this week's mosaic.
It's been a warm, cloudy start to the week here. The days are getting shorter, and there's an autumnal feel to each morning - yet, we are still having some fine, mild weather. There's still a lot of green about, though sooner rather than later, the autumn colours will be taking their moment....
I started the week with a morning off - quite unusually for me, but I had some errands to run and found myself having a coffee in Morrisons listening to The Smiths 'Every day is like Sunday' - and having a strange flashback to being sixteen again.... Such a glamorous life. But I have been drawing this afternoon, so that's why this post is a little later than it might usually be....
I've new work to add to my shop this week - so I'll be updating on Wednesday at 2pm. There should be a modest update most weeks now until the end of the year. This week expect to see a new selection of works on paper. I'll preview a few tomorrow.
Have a good start to your week.

Hello, a September Monday has arrived - many thanks to all the artists and photographers featured in this week's mosaic. A muggy, damp start to the week here.
I've had a busy start to the week, looking through work for this Wednesday's shop update. I'll be updating at the usual time of 2pm. From this week onward, as we enter into autumn and beyond, expect to see an update most Wednesdays. There will be new paintings and drawings available this week. These are works created over the past few weeks.
During September I plan to work on new mixed media drawings/paintings, and some paper sculpture works. These are ideas I have had in mind for some time. It is my hope you will enjoy seeing how these ideas evolve.
Have a good start to your week - tomorrow I'll share a few more new works.

'figures in interior (yellow armchair)'
acrylics on Fabriano paper
a quartet of smaller gouache artworks
'figure seated on a chair' - monoprint drawing
A look at just some of the new artworks I have been busy with.... I am updating my shop next Wednesday with quite a variety of works and I hope you will enjoy taking a look at the final selection. I am pleased with how my painting has evolved in recent months, and how I have gone further with my explorations in colour and abstracting the figure. Thank you always for your interest.
I've spent the past several months quite focused on painting and feel now, with the beginning of a new month here, it is time to change focus for a while.... So, I will continue on with painting but will also be working on new drawings and will also be exploring some new sculptural works, including a new series of chairs. It will take me a while to have the new sculptural pieces in full production, but hope to share some glimpses with you as I progress.
Looking forward to a very interesting September! Hoping we have plenty of sunny, golden days so that I may take especially good photographs of the new work.
