sketchbook

recent sketchbook page - oil pastels

It's a damp and rather overcast start to the week here. As we find January's end, I am looking ahead to spring. So today I've been working on spring-hopeful-inspired landscapes in both gouache and oil pastel. There are so many possibilities.... Oil pastel is something I'm coming back to after not using it for a while. In my son's room hangs an oil pastel work I made several years ago - it's been a handy reminder. So I have been exploring both landscapes and still life in oil pastel. Perhaps I may have a few new works in oil pastel available in February....

There's no shop update this week. I'm spending time working and getting engrossed in the making of. Perhaps updating every other week is the way I may do things for a while. Thanks to everyone who has purchased artwork from my recently - very much appreciated.

I hope to share more new work with you some time this week. It would be good to see a little sun and to go for a walk in the woods....

more soon....

Hello, another Monday in January.... and another chilly start to the week. I hope you may enjoy the images in this week's mosaic and thanks always to my Flickr contacts.

I'm not updating my shop this week.... I am instead working quietly and taking time to make new paintings. I'm also considering new ideas in my sketchbooks. Looking forward to sharing more with you in the near future.

There will be a preview post featuring new work - some time later in this week.

Meanwhile, just to note my next shop update should be next week: 25th Jan.

Have a good start to your week

Hello, a happy Monday to you - and it's been a damp, mild sort of start to the week here. Thanks always to my Flickr contacts and please follow links to discover  more......

I've started this week with painting - exploring interiors.... But I am working on a variety of ideas at the moment. Focusing on gouache, with a little ink drawing to loosen things up now and then. As the year began I did not make any resolutions, but long-term am aiming to pace myself, not pile on the pressure too much and to give myself time to explore....

There will be a small selection of work in my shop this Wednesday. I'm aiming to update most Wednesdays - a modest offering each week. I'll hope to share a new work post tomorrow.

Have a good start to your week.

new work - artist books and more

talk of rebirth

'talk of rebirth'

Indian ink on paper - a folding artwork, artist book

I  often consider the book form - whether a simple concertina of folded paper, or something more 'bookish' with a sewn spine. I'm interested in spending more time exploring ideas over the months ahead. I do feel a strong attraction to artist books and have done for many years. There are so many possibilities. A main focus for the coming months.....

Considering display of book works - you have a range of options: you might wish to keep as a book and store carefully to be looked at occasionally, as part of a collection. Or you may prefer to display, standing 'as is' on a shelf. Or you might prefer to frame behind glass - and here you have further options, to perhaps frame flat in a standard frame or display in a deeper box frame. So, if you were wondering how something like this might work for your collection, you have plenty of choice.....

Most of the work going into my shop tomorrow was made just before Christmas. However, I have worked on new artworks today and so have a few new-new pieces to add to the selection. And so here is my first gouache book work of the year:

Hello, a happy new year mosaic Monday - it's a bright start to the week here.

I've been thinking about changing the format of this blog - and taking a break from mosaic Mondays. But for now at least, I am continuing on...... After all these years I still like Flickr and I value the connections I make, so with that in mind I am still sharing a few favourites via mosaics. Thanks always to my Flickr contacts and please follow links to discover more....

Today is a bank holiday here in the UK, and it's my final day away from making work. I've been busy with other work-related things over the past few days, including planning a little, writing a bit.

Shop update - next one is on Wednesday. There will be a small selection of recent work. This is work I made just before the Christmas break. I'll be updating at the usual time of 2pm.

So this week I'll begin on making new work, with no exact ideas in mind - which yes is quite a daunting prospect. That is not to say I have no ideas! I do, I have various thoughts and lots of starting points in mind. But this year I am hoping to work yet more intuitively, to go with the flow and to see where that takes me. So whilst I have materials and some thoughts on scale and colour, I am starting again and will approach each painting or drawing with the same 'starting over' approach. I want to work with a range of media including gouache, acrylics and ink.

I'm also considering making a new small selection of stitched works, of some kind. But not at this moment.

Have a good start to your week - a post sharing new work will be here tomorrow.
